United Way Announces Merger

Main Content

These are exciting times for all of us here at United Way. United Way of Greater Milwaukee and United Way in Waukesha County have merged to form United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County.

This has been an incredibly thorough and thoughtful process, and we are excited to be moving forward.

Initial conversations began in August of 2013 between Steve Roell, former chairman & CEO of Johnson Controls, Inc. and then United Way of Greater Milwaukee board chair and Jay Magulski, president & CEO of Landmark Credit Union and United Way in Waukesha County board chair. We are grateful to Steve and Jay for their early and ongoing involvement.

David Lubar, president & CEO of Lubar & Co. and current United Way of Greater Milwaukee board chair along with David Gilmartin, global director, commercial insights at GE Healthcare and vice chair of United Way in Waukesha County worked with Steve and Jay and many others to lead the merger to completion.

In this new structure, we truly believe we will be able to drive greater impact, create better understanding, develop stronger relationships, and facilitate easier engagement with United Way throughout the region.

These changes have been encouraged by many of our corporate donors and endorsed by United Way Worldwide.

Stacey D. Stewart, US President, United Way Worldwide, said the merger aligns with the network’s philosophy. “As United Way continues to evolve, the natural progression of our work should have us all asking how we can be even more effective, put greater resources against mission-related efforts and ultimately—better serve our communities,” Stewart said. “The decision by United Way of Greater Milwaukee and United Way in Waukesha County to merge their operations will allow more powerful responses to pressing community issues that are market-driven rather than geography-driven and will increase satisfaction among key corporate accounts in this multi-county area.”

As we take this important step, I want to thank the entire community for their continued support. You are creating real, lasting change in this community. Thank you for the tremendous impact you have on our region.
