In Wisconsin, just 47% of third-graders are proficient in reading. Readers United is a year-round initiative to promote literacy by building students’ skills and excitement about reading and growing their home libraries.
This initiative encompasses:
- Emerging Readers
- My Very Own Library Program: In partnership with Scholastic, students in 14 schools get to choose 10 books to take home through free book fairs.
- Build My Bookshelf – Waukesha: Students in the highest-need schools in Waukesha can build their home libraries with books of their choice.
- Summer Slide Prevention: Fighting summer learning loss through books and engagement activities.
- Vello: Volunteers help tutor local students online to boost their reading skills.
