Remember those summers when you were too young for a job but too old to just hang around the house all day? What did you do to pass the time? Pre-teen Simmi Urbanek’s mom had an interesting solution: she dropped her two daughters off at their local United Way and said "find something to do!"

This began a long life of giving, volunteering, and advocacy for Simmi. After her first summer with United Way staffing charity root beer float stands, playing with kids at local agencies, and volunteering at a nonprofit coffee shop, Simmi stayed involved in volunteer activities through college.

Through her first job at Milwaukee-based Plunkett Raysich Architects, Simmi turned the annual United Way workplace campaign into a week-long party, complete with costumes, competition, and inspiration.

These days, Simmi is the Director of Marketing at Plunkett Raysich and is the United Way Employee Giving Campaign Co-chair. She also expands her love of giving back to her personal life, giving back with her husband and two kids. Says Simmi, “there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about United Way.” Check out her great story!
