Welcome to Leaders United

Thank you for being a member of one (or more) of United Way’s donor networks! This includes Women United, Emerging Leaders, IT United, Diversity Leadership Society, LINC, and Retire United. This new monthly email shares what’s happening with these groups.

Nominate a local hero today!

Each year the Emerging Leaders recognize five outstanding community members in their 20s, 30s or 40s, plus one youth leader who give, advocate, and volunteer in the local community. Submit your nomination by March 20.

It’s the 10th anniversary! Hear from Kadie Jelenchick, 2013 P5 honoree, on what this award means to her.

Each year the councils nominate and elect new chairs to work alongside veteran council chairs. Thank you to new and returning council and committee chairs!

Event Spotlight: CIO Forum

The IT United CIO Forum was held February 17 with 250 technology professionals in attendance. The annual breakfast featured panel discussions with prominent CIOs on technology trends and strategies. The event’s generous sponsors contributed more than $170,000 to United Way’s Community Fund. Visit Facebook for event photos.

Meet Retire United

Retire United members are retired or soon-to-retire and recognize the importance of volunteerism and philanthropy in strengthening the community. Stay connected while embarking on this exciting new chapter.

Warm Winter Wishes

United Way partnered with Boston Store to provided a free and easy way for people to volunteer at the mall. Shoppers packed healthy winter breakfast bundles for local families in need outside of Boston Store at Brookfield Square on February 11. Two hundred giant mugs were wrapped up with personalized notes of encouragement and hearty breakfast fixings. Keep scrolling for current volunteer needs.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

The IT United Career Fair needs volunteers to lead discussions and demonstrations on March 14 at UW-Milwaukee. Listen to one student’s story of how the Career Fair helped her connect to the professional world and how she pays it forward.

Save the dates for Women United's Getting Ready for the Real World Mentoring Series. On the mornings of May 3, 10, and 17 volunteers will lead discussions on professionalism, résumés, and interviewing with young women attending James Madison Academic Campus. Read about one Council member’s experience.

Be a Reading Buddy! Help close Milwaukee’s literacy gap by reading aloud and leading learning games with Kindergarten through fifth grade elementary school children on a weekly basis. Volunteers make a huge impact in less than one hour per week.
