IT United Agency Requests

IT United Agency Requests

United Way Agency Program Partners have the opportunity to submit IT projects to United Way to be considered for volunteer opportunities. After review and approval, these projects will be shared with IT United members as opportunities to directly support United Way Agency Program Partners with their specialized skills.

Examples of past projects include:

  • Configuring a new computer
  • Establishing a wireless network
  • Providing a needs assessment before purchasing new equipment

Agency Project Guidelines & Recommendations

  • Identify your project based on an organizational need.
It is helpful to consider your organization’s annual strategy and plan if the proposed project is more complex than simple equipment set up or network configuration.

  • Clearly outline the content of the project, putting expected outcomes in writing.
Be mindful of the time requirement for your project. We recommend that projects are designed to be completed in 6 hours or less of volunteer time. More complex and time consuming projects will be considered on a case by case basis.

  • Obtain approvals and buy-in from organization leadership and managing staff.

  • Determine who internally will coordinate with the volunteer and oversee the project (staff or board member, if applicable).

  • Stay within your approved scope and adhere to the original project.
Any additional work can be submitted to United Way as a separate project.

  • Treat IT United volunteers as you would an independent individual volunteering for your organization.
    • Confidentiality: volunteers are expected to exercise good judgment and discretion regarding any information shared during a project; however it is the agency’s responsibility to establish confidentiality between the volunteer and the agency, including a signed confidentiality agreement (if applicable).
  • Communicate clearly with the volunteer and United Way.
United Way will send each volunteer program participant a survey to gather feedback following their project. Please be forthright with your responses and help improve this program.

Please note: United Way is happy to serve as the facilitator between an agency and IT United volunteers, however IT United and United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County are not liable for any project outcomes.
