Backpack Coalition

Backpack Coalition, which has been led by United Way since 2014, is committed to providing backpacks and school supplies to students with financial constraints, helping ensure they succeed in school.

Each year the coalition distributes approximately 3,000 backpacks with grade appropriate school supplies to students in grades K-12.

Public supply drive bins are located at both United Way offices from June 1 through July 27.

Getting a Backpack


Milwaukee: Students at Auer Avenue Community School, Browning Elementary, Hopkins Lloyd Community School, Lincoln Avenue School, and Longfellow School, and incoming freshmen at Bradley Tech High School, James Madison Academic Campus, and South Division High School will receive a backpack prior to school starting.

Application Deadline: June 22

Distribution Day: August 18

*Students enrolled in Blair or Whittier for the 2018-2019 school year will be provided backpacks (no application required).
