Backpack Coalition

Backpack Coalition, which has been led by United Way since 2014, is committed to providing backpacks and school supplies to students with financial constraints, helping ensure they succeed in school.

Each year the coalition distributes almost 5,000 backpacks with grade appropriate school supplies to students in grades K-12.

Supply Drives

Public supply drive bins are located at:

  • United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County
    225 W. Vine St., Milwaukee
    Hours (large donations): Monday - Thursday, 8:00am - 4:00pm; Friday, 8:00am - 12:00pm
    Hours (small donations): Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm [Through August 9]

    Special Deal: Donations of a new backpack with 5 items will receive free admission for a select amount of hours

    Special Deal: $5.00 OFF of a day pass with one or more new items
  • Sunset Bank

Getting a Backpack

Milwaukee: Backpacks will be distributed to our Milwaukee Community Partnership Schools.

Oconomowoc: Food Pantry
Pewaukee: Food Pantry, School District Office
Waukesha: School District Of Waukesha Campuses, Waukesha Food Pantry, Health & Human Services, and Salvation Army

Applications Available: April 15

Application Deadline: June 28

Distribution Day: August 24

*Students at Whittier and Hadfield Elementaries will receive a backpack. Applications aren't needed for children attending these schools.
