As a young and able-bodied person, it’s hard to imagine not being able to do simple day-to-day things to maintain my home or run errands – but I know there are many senior citizens in our community, or maybe you have a grandparent in your life, that deal with these challenges every day.

Last month, I had the opportunity to volunteer with United Way LINC at the Interfaith Washington Park Senior Center serving up a traditional Wisconsin fish fry to its clients and volunteers.

Being a part of LINC has not only given me the opportunity to volunteer more, but to meet like-minded young professionals and grow my network at the same time.

After we all had our fill of fish, we were treated to a ComedySportz show – it’s hard to say who was more boisterous – the LINC volunteers, or the Interfaith crowd! Suffice to say, everyone enjoyed the show thoroughly.

I’m glad to know, United Way supports organizations like Interfaith – because at some point in our lives everyone needs a helping hand. One day I may need a helping hand.

I look forward to continuing to be involved in future LINC events – where I can meet more new people and learn more about the agencies that United Way supports.

If you want to get involved, join me Monday March 23 for 15 Minute Philanthropy to pack reading goodie bags.
