You can give, advocate or volunteer because that’s what it means to Live United. This month, I had an opportunity to be an advocate for United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County. I visited Capitol Hill to help strengthen relationships with Members of Congress and position United Way as an expert on the local community.

On “Hill Day” I met with Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) and Senator Ron Johnson, (R-Wis.) and asked them to move through legislation to revitalize the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). This campaign was established by President Kennedy and reaffirmed by President Reagan to “lessen the burdens of government and of local communities in meeting needs of human health and welfare.” Federal employees, like all Americans, are generous with their charitable giving.

I also met with A.J. Moore, Legislative Assistant to Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner, (R-Wis.). The Congressman is highly supportive to charitable giving incentives to ensure private charities are able to help those in need and advance the common good. We also discussed the recent merger between United Way of Greater Milwaukee & United Way in Waukesha County.

United Way was well represented on the Hill with many of my counterparts also meeting their representatives.  Although, Congress was not in session, my meeting with our two Senators was a wonderful experience.

It’s also an example of what Great Things Happen When We Live United
