This week we talk with volunteer Phyllis Wiggins, who serves full time with American Red Cross in Southeastern Wisconsin. We discuss her rocky road from serving in the military, being falsely imprisoned in Germany, acclimating back to civilian life, finding her passion in volunteering and how she helps people affected by disasters all across the country. This is a story you do not want to miss!
Phyllis currently serves as the Chapter Logistics Lead for American Red Cross in Southeast Wisconsin. In this role, she is responsible for the human and real assets assigned to 7 activities: Supply, Procurement, Facilities, Life Safety Asset Protection, Warehousing, Transportation, and In-Kind-Donations. Together with her team, she supports every disaster recovery operation by ensuring all volunteers and staff have the supplies, goods, services, facilities, technology, and staff they need to provide direct client services. “I am happy to work alongside these dedicated personnel every day. The leadership I provide is enhanced by the talent they bring to insure the entire team's success” says Phyllis.
Phyllis is proud to be chosen to serve on this Operations Management Team as a Logistics Assistant Director. Phyllis deploys nationally and assumes responsibility for the overall operation of 9 Logistics activities assigned to a job. As a member of this team, Phyllis is always on standby ready to deploy. If activated, she must leave within a 24 hour period and report to the Operation ready to go!
