President Obama will visit Milwaukee tomorrow to celebrate Milwaukee’s collective effort to enroll as many people as possible in the Health Insurance Marketplace through the Healthy Communities Challenge. The challenge was a competition among 20 cities to increase the number of Americans with health insurance during the latest open enrollment period.
Milwaukee took the challenge seriously and rallied the troops – over 100 partners who are part of the Milwaukee Enrollment Network. In a statement, Mayor Barrett said, “I am proud of the collaborative effort that took place to increase the number of local residents enrolled in health insurance, and I look forward to showcasing the hard work of the more than 100 partners in the Milwaukee Enrollment Network during this visit.”
Nationally over 13 million Americans signed up for healthcare through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Locally, 89,000 individuals signed up for Marketplace health plans overall – 38,000 of those were new enrollees.
President Obama will deliver his remarks and congratulations tomorrow at the United Community Center Bruce-Guadalupe Middle School on the City’s Southside.
