Too Many Black Babies Dying

Main Content

Milwaukee has one of the worst infant mortality rates and the highest gap in black-to-white deaths of infants.

According to the 2014 data released black babies in Milwaukee are nearly three times more likely to die during their first year of life than white babies.

United Way is leading a robust effort to reduce the city’s infant mortality rate by 10% and the African-American infant mortality rate by 15% by 2017.

Helping move that needle, United Way’s five Community Health Ambassadors are making an impact right now in our community to help families raise strong babies.

Ambassador Tonda Thompson (who is in the video) has done an amazing job highlighting programs that help build stronger families. Watch Tonda's video on the impact we are having.
