Over the last week, two local corporate volunteer groups have installed Born Learning Trails in area parks. A Born Learning Trail contains 10 interactive signs with activities for adults to engage in with young children to turn an outdoor trip into a fun learning experience.

On June 9, volunteers from Deloitte installed their trail at Enderis Park on Milwaukee’s west side, and American Transmission Company completed their installation on June 13 at Lewis Playfield in Bay View.

We visited these teams and asked volunteers about their favorite park memories:

“I used to live in the Bay View neighborhood and when my kids were young we would walk around to all the area parks, including Lewis Playfield. We would walk to South Shore Park, our favorite, to throw rocks into the water by the shore and play on the playground with views of the lake. It’s such a great park!”
-Jenny Bradley, Corporate Communications, American Transmission Company

“Growing up, my family would take my sister and I to Frame Park in Waukesha. We would rollerblade all around the park. It was a really nice way to have fun with the family, be outside, and enjoy nature.
-Evan Hussinger, First Year Audit Associate, Deloitte

“My favorite memories are of going up to Green Bay to Bay Beach Park. We would play in the park, ride on the rides, and go over to the wildlife sanctuary with my kids. They loved feeding the geese and the deer and visiting the wildlife rehabilitation center. We would spend the whole day and have such a great time.”
-Kim Hackelberg, Senior Engineering Specialist, American Transmission Company

“My brother and I were at the park feeding geese and my brother decided to be smart and walked up to one of the geese and got hissed at. He ran away crying….I thought it was hilarious!”
-Allison Justus (right), Audit Staff, Deloitte

“I loved going to play tennis with my mom. She got me started and one of my first times playing with her was at Sherman Park in Milwaukee.”
-Danelle Williams, Audit Staff, Deloitte

“When I was a kid in Madison, we had several parks in our neighborhood that were within a block of our house. We called one park ‘the big park’ and one park ‘the little park.’ Both were really nice with lots of playground equipment and green space. I have a lot of good memories of hanging out with other kids, having picnics, and doing arts and crafts in the summer.”
-Alex Metz, Engineering Specialist, American Transmission Company

“When I was little I was feeding the ducks and they started chasing me. I was so scared! I just threw the Cheetos on the ground and started running. My brother still makes fun of me for that.”
-Perla Jaimes, Senior Audit Assistant, Deloitte
