It was an epic win for the Milwaukee Brewers and United Way as $13,860 was raised at the “Live United Game Day” honoring Joe Lubar on Sunday, May 31.

Lubar, son of David and Madeleine Lubar, passed away in February of 2011 during a skiing accident in Colorado. Following his death, the family set up the Joseph Rochford Lubar Emergency Fund through United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County.

During Sunday’s game, attendees could donate to a 50/50 raffle with proceeds benefitting that fund. The money raised allows United Way to quickly provide basic needs to local agencies and respond to our community’s most urgent needs.

“United Way offers an avenue of support to help agency program partners meet immediate and pressing needs, such as purchasing food for a pantry, covering additional fuel costs associated with home visitation programs, or providing emergency shelter in extreme weather conditions,” said David Lubar, United Way board chairman. “I’m happy this fund is able to honor my son’s memory while giving United Way the resources to help other families in our community who might need it.”

The Lubar family, United Way staff and mascot Bernie Brewer also wore Live United t-shirts honoring Joe’s memory. Special scoreboard messaging and stadium signage were featured throughout the 17- inning game. The event was graciously sponsored by Baird.
