Welcome to spring 2017! Take advantage of the nice weather, longer days, and improved moods by signing up for a fun volunteer project this month:

  1. Create a Note of Encouragement for an isolated older adult. May is Older Americans Month. Write a quick note of happiness and support from your desk, phone, or home computer to one of the many older adults living in isolation in our community. Write your own note or choose a pre-written template.

  2. Donate health & hygiene items. Milwaukee Area Labor Council is collecting new health and hygiene items to donate to area homeless shelters. Drop off your donations at United Way’s Milwaukee office at 225 W. Vine street or Waukesha office at 1717 Paramount drive.

  3. Get outside for United Way Field Day. Volunteer to guide students and teachers through interactive stations focused on healthy living and healthy fun. May 12, 12:30-4pm at Whittier Elementary School in Waukesha or June 2, 11:30-2:30pm at Auer Avenue Elementary School in Milwaukee.

  4. Help high schoolers get ready for the real world. Join the Women's Leadership Council at James Madison Academic Campus (JMAC), a United Way Community School Partner, for an hour of mentoring high-school aged young women. Topics include professionalism, resume writing, and interviewing. Volunteer for one shift or all three! May 3, 10, and 17, 9-11am.

  5. Spread your love of reading. Volunteer to help students in Milwaukee & Waukesha public schools pick out books to build their very own home libraries! Volunteer in Milwaukee on May 24 or at a Waukesha school on June 1.

Looking to garden, read with kids, serve a meal, or run a donation drive? Check out our Volunteer website for hundreds of other ways to get involved in May…and all year long!
