On October 15, United Way’s Diversity Leadership Society is collaborating with ONE MKE for the Driver of Diversity Awards. The event, graciously sponsored by Johnson Controls, will highlight individuals and corporations in Greater Milwaukee who have made it their mission to drive diversity and positively impact our community. ONE MKE member John Daniels shares why this event is so important.

Q. Why was Drivers of Diversity Created?
Drivers of Diversity was created as a way to honor the hard work of changing the culture, it was a small recognition for those were doing monumental works in some of Milwaukee's greatest treasures. While the inaugural year struggled to narrow the number of people doing this work, the statements from those who were in attendance echoed the need for more champions.

Q. Why is it important in our community?
Drivers of Diversity recognizes those who are doing the work to make our city a better place by pushing innovation and inclusion as business cases. It gives recognition not only to people but to initiatives and challenges us to work for a greater united city. One MKE has created educational material based upon the work of diversity in our city. Part of the proceeds assist in the creation of materials for young professionals and executives to continue to drive diversity. While this is a tangible benefit, the entire community benefits when we drive diversity in our community.

Q. Why should people in our community attend?
We are choosing to celebrate the immense diversity of Milwaukee rather than harp about the segregation in the city. People who attend should will have a great opportunity to network with a variety of people from across cultures and industries and leave feeling inspired by the great work happening in our community.
