Reducing Barriers to Employment & Advancement: La Casa de Esperanza
La Casa supports United Way’s Reducing Barriers to Employment & Advancement strategies, and they help individuals like Gumaro form a path to a stable career.
“The great thing about La Casa is that I never felt alone,” Gumaro said. “They helped me out so much. I was able to move forward in life with different job skills. I can be confident in myself that I can do it.”
Gumaro received training in resume writing and interview skills. He received financial support through a gas card to attend interviews. He even received a computer from United Way’s Techquity initiative. This support helped him land a stable job.
“This employment program – without United Way – is not a program,” said Vanessa Arena, Employment Specialist at La Casa de Esperanza.
In addition, he accessed free tax preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, helping him keep more of what he earns and strengthen his financial stability.
Expressing her gratitude, Vanessa said, “I’m proud to have a partner like United Way. I can't thank them enough.”
