As a single mom, Latoya wanted to set a positive example for her kids and to provide for her family with a better-paying job. Determined to show that hard work pays off, she was eager to earn her high school equivalency diploma and found her way to Literacy Services of Wisconsin.
Literacy Services of Wisconsin is a premier provider of adult education services, continuously offering high-quality literacy programming.
“We’re making investments in the human beings that make our cities so great,” said Holly McCoy-Perez, Executive Director of Literacy Services of Wisconsin.
Among their programs, they offer GED and HSED options for those who need to earn a high school credential. Their HSED program is competency-based and allows students to learn in ways that best suit them, not just through testing. Literacy Services of Wisconsin also partners with MATC, allowing students to continue their education and transition into a career that best suits them.
Latoya succeeded in passing her HSED and, as a testament to her hard work, she was the commencement speaker during her class graduation. Now, she’s enrolled at MATC to pursue her passion for cooking.
“I’m really proud that I stuck to my dreams,” Latoya said. “I stuck to my goals. I stuck to what was inside of me.”
